Taylor Vaphiades- Factory Worker

As a factory worker, I believe that the Industrial Revolution helped the people as a whole for a period of time. In the beginning, factories gave people who needed jobs a job to run the machines and make sure that everything ran smoothly. It gave many people the opportunity to earn money in a safer environment while doing less labor intensive work. But as time went on, we the workers, were beginning to be replaced by steam engines that would power the machines without the help of people. This resulted in people loosing their jobs that they so desperately needed to feed their families and pay their taxes. While these factories produced many helpful goods such as cotton and other materials, as a whole, I do not believe that the Industiral Revolution helped everyone.

  1. Thomas Robert Malthus (K.Ellis)- Just because you are inside does not mean that it is a safer environment. With all of the machinery there are so many dangers. For one if you accidentally put your arm in the way of the loom, you are going to lose your arm, these machines that have been created are very dangerous. Also it is not necessarily less labor intensive work, those machines are hard to run and operate, you need an immense amount of skill, which takes a lot of time and labor.

  2. Adam Smith (garrett elderkin), you are working in a factory why?, because you need money, sure that could be an answer but another reason could be that you were kicked off your land by the government, so they could do your old job better. Just as the government replaced you at your old job you are being replaced by machines at your new job, so are you actually being helped or are you being hurt. Do you know not think the government has too much power over buissiness and that if it were left to people and competing buissiness many of the factory workers replaced by machines would still retain their jobs.
